Mature tree preservation in Pelham parkOur home neighborhood, Almstead opened in New Rochelle in 1964. The area is also home to many beautiful mature Sycamores, Oaks, Spruces and Hickories, as well as smaller feature ornamentals, including Plums, Dogwoods, and Japanese Maples. Almstead's staff of Certified Arborists and tree crews are well seasoned in pruning large trees for a variety of reasons, including removing deadwood and scaling back the canopies for clearance away from structures, driveways, utility lines, and even other trees. We also have a lot of experience in hand pruning of ornamental trees and shrubs, including fruit trees as well as pruning and management of woody vines.
Pelham is the oldest town in Westchester County, but most of the trees in the area are relatively young in comparison, planted around 100-150 years ago. This puts many of the trees in Pelham and New Rochelle at an age of being mature, but with plenty of life left ahead of them. Since we're in a city environment, it's important to show these older trees some extra attention. Regular inspections, and sometimes special testing, to determine whether a tree is hazardous is an example of this. There is also a lot we can do to help a tree thrive in its older age, especially when it comes to the root system and surrounding soil.
