The Benefits of Mulch

If applied correctly, mulch can be very beneficial to your landscape. Mulch is material that is laid over the surface of the soil to help retain moisture in the soil, provide nutrients, suppress weeds, protect against extreme temperatures, and make the landscape look more attractive. Almstead produces premium quality mulch. Our mulch is aged and treated to eliminate pathogens and double-hammered for texture. It is available in natural brown or in a variety of vibrant, dyed colors. Your Almstead arborist can supply and apply mulch to your landscape at the correct depth and placement.

Proper mulching helps manage soil moisture stress and increases soil fertility. By using high quality Almstead Mulch, the benefits of mulching can be extended even further. This includes soil temperature control, weed suppression and enhancing natural nutrients already present in your soil…

  • Mulch adds organic matter to your soil. This helps make your garden healthier and more resistant to pest and disease.
  • Mulch provides valuable slow-release nutrients and prevents vitamin loss in plants.
  • Mulch prevents evaporation by shielding the soil from the sun. It also reduces water run-off during rain or watering. This also reduces the amount of watering needed.
  • Mulch shades delicate seedlings from too much sun.
  • Mulch is a great insulator. By regulating the soil temperature it keeps roots consistently cool in summer and warm in winter.
  • Mulch provides a natural barrier to stop weeds from growing and competing with plants for nutrients.
  • Mulch improves the visual appearance of your garden.
  • Mulch can provide a home for plant-friendly insects.
