Treeture Nursery
Eastchester, NY
Almstead arborist Marisa DelCorzo, and our New Rochelle crew and staff, celebrated Arbor Day with Girl Scouts at the Treeture Nursery in Eastchester, NY. The Girl Scouts enthusiastically planted 100 Norway Spruce seedlings that were donated by Almstead at the Nursery. When these seedlings get large enough to transplant, they will be replanted around the town. The event was organized by Judith Blau, creator of the Treeture series of books and characters. Attendees included Town Supervisor, Anthony Colavita, Councilwoman Theresa Nicholson, and Councilman, Anthony Giacobbe.
Wave Hill Public Garden
Bronx, NY
Almstead once again sponsored the Junior Arborist Station at Wave Hill Public Garden on Arbor Day. Kids ages five and up wore tree-climbing harnesses and hardhats and, under the supervision of Almstead professional climbers, ascended into the canopy of a large sugar maple tree to get a birds-eye view of Wave Hill. It is estimated that over 150 young climbers were hoisted to the top of the tree. Ken Almstead (CEO) was on hand to give his expert advice on trees and plants to visitors and Almstead staff handed out free Norway Spruce saplings as well as other giveaways. A highlight at the event was an appearance by Almstead’s Arbor Day mascot Sprig “The Treedom Fighter” — from Judith Blau’s whimsical and popular Treetures series of books.
