Kykuit Manor and the Rockefeller State Park Preserve

Kykuit – The Rockefeller Estate

Kykuit, the family home of four generations of the Rockefellers, sits majestically atop Pocantico Hills, overlooking the Hudson River. Built in 1913 in the Beaux‑Arts style, the 40-room mansion and its lush gardens—spanning over 3,400 acres—are open to the public from May through November

 

Tour Options & Prices (2025)

Selected Highlights Tour: 1.5 hr (with shuttle):

  • $25 for adults.
  • Youth/seniors: ~$20–23

Classic Tour – 2 hr (with shuttle):

  • $55 for adults
  • Seniors/young adults - $45

Grand Tour – 3 hr (with shuttle):

  • $75 for ages 10+

 

Booking:

Reserve at least 48 hours ahead; all tours depart from the Philipsburg Manor Visitor Center (381 N Broadway, Sleepy Hollow). Arrive 30 minutes early

 

Hours (Estate Tours):

  • Runs daily, May–November.
  • For late summer/fall: tours continue through November 12–15ish; check most recent dates online

 

What to Expect:

Beaux‑Arts gardens: terraces, fountains, sculpture strolls

Art highlights: modern sculptures by Warhol, Picasso, Calder, Noguchi, Brâncuși, and more scattered through the grounds. Inside the mansion: grand art galleries and Rockefeller collections featured on Classic & Grand tours.

 

 

Rockefeller State Park Preserve

Much of the Kykuit estate land became part of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve—over 1,700 acres of carriage roads, forests, meadows, and streams

 

Open Hours:

  • Year-round, daily from sunrise to sunset.
  • Office/galleries: 9 am–4:30 pm (closed Christmas)

 

Parking:

  • $6/day per vehicle (Empire or Golden Park Pass holders free)

 

Late‑Summer & Fall Activities:

  • Walking, jogging, hiking: Try scenic loops like Swan Lake, Rockwood Hall, and Thirteen Bridges—especially beautiful in fall foliage
  • Horseback riding & carriage driving on crushed‑stone trails that shimmer with autumn leaves
  • Bird‑watching & wildlife viewing: Over 180 bird species, plus monarch butterflies migrating in fall
  • Fishing (permit required) beside streams and Swan Lake
  • Photography outings & guided nature walks: Office hosts summer photography hikes and occasional fall events—check online for schedule.

 

Park Guidelines:

  • Trails open dawn–dusk.
  • No bicycles, fires, camping, swimming, or drones. Dogs must be leashed.
  • Rockwood Hall area permits picnicking, sledding, frisbee in winter zones

 

Late‑Summer & Fall Highlights

  • Guided hikes & educational walks: Join “Hike with Mike” events, nature photography sessions, or fall foliage programs — often free or low‑cost .
  • Fall foliage display: Mid‑September through late October is peak foliage along Hudson River cliffs and lake vistas.
  • Helicopter tours over Kykuit & Hudson Valley: Though not part of the estate, private charters leave from Manhattan or Westchester and cost from $950 for 2–6 people

 

Seasonal events at Kykuit:

  • Occasional Halloween or arts programming may pop up — check Historic Hudson Valley’s fall calendar (e.g., Pumpkin Blaze, Great Jack o’Lantern Blaze)
